Easy Math Equations FAQ

Frequently asked questions for Easy Math Equations for Confluence.

How to insert your first math equation with Easy Math?

Here is a step by step guide:

  1. Open an existing Confluence page or create a new one. Be sure you are in edit mode.
  2. Type /math or /easy anywhere on the page.
  3. Choose between inline or display macro. Inline version is best to be used as a part of the sentence (this way for example: \(i = \sqrt{-1}\)). Display version is best for more complex equations that requires a new line to be readable. Here is an example:
    \[\frac{d}{dx} \int_a^x f(t) \, dt = f(x)\]
I have existing formulas in LaTeX / MathML. Can I import them?

Easy Math Equations for Confluence are optimised for non-experts, but the macro is powered by the gold standard in mathematics typography: LaTeX.

You can both copy and paste LaTeX straight to and from the editor. Open the „Insert Math Equation” popup by typing either /easy or /math, then paste your LaTeX code into the math-field.

Do my equations leave Atlassian's servers?

No. Easy Math Equations is built on Atlassian Forge, which qualifies it for the Runs on Atlassian designation. All processing happens exclusively on Atlassian's own infrastructure — your equation content is never sent to any external servers or third-party services.

This makes Easy Math suitable for organizations with strict data residency requirements or enterprise security policies.

Does export to Word or PDF work?

Yes. Equations render correctly when exporting Confluence pages to Word documents and PDF files. No broken symbols, no missing fonts — what you see in Confluence is what you get in the exported file. This feature is available from the current version of Easy Math Equations.
