Smart Jira Issue FAQ

Common questions about Dirty Agile tools for Confluence.

What are the limitations of LITE version?

Smart Issue View for Confluence offers two macros that fit different uses cases. LITE version is limited only to one variant. The below table highlights the most important differences between them:

What's the difference between Smart and Configurable macros?

Configurable Macro relies on fields selected by the user while placing the macro on the page. Use it if you need specific Jira issue fields on a page. To use it, simply search for "Configurable Jira issue" in your Confluence macro browser.

Smart Macro works out-of-the-box simply by copy & pasting the issue URL onto a Confluence page. It analyzes your Jira instance and displays only the fields that are actually populated, hiding the empty ones to keep your documentation clean.

Can I migrate from LITE to Full version?

Yes. Macros created by Smart Jira Issue LITE plugin are compatible with the FULL plugin version.

So if you install the FULL version, the pages that used the LITE version are going to be rendered flawlessly.

Heads up: If you uninstall the LITE version before you install the FULL version, you might notice an "Unknown macro" warning on Confluence pages until the FULL version is fully installed.

How to insert Smart Jira issue macro?

Using /jj shortcut is the fastest way to insert any of the Smart Jira Issue macros directly into the Confluence editor.

How to authorize Smart Jira issue view for Confluence?
  1. Click "Authorize to see the issue": Click the Authorize link displayed inside the macro placeholder.
  2. Click "Authorize!" on the modal: A window will pop up prompting you to continue.
  3. Confirm authorization: On the Atlassian consent screen, pick your Jira cloud instance from the “Authorize for” list and confirm it.
  4. Refresh the Confluence page: Refresh the page and the Jira issue data will appear!
Why do I see "Authorize to see the issue"?

If instead of issue-related information you see the issue’s key and an "Authorize to see the issue" message, it means you have to authorize Smart issue to allow the plugin to access your Jira account.

This is a very easy, one-time operation that each user has to perform to ensure your Jira permissions are fully respected.

Why do I need to authorise the macro?

From the user interface perspective, Atlassian cloud products (such as Jira, Confluence, or Bitbucket) seem to be tightly integrated sharing a single user base.

Under the hood, you have a separate grant for each product in the cloud family. Smart issue, as an Atlassian Marketplace Plugin, cannot automatically use these existing internal grants. This is true for all cross-product plugins on the marketplace.

This is why each Smart issue user has to authorize the plugin and allow it to access their Jira issues securely. Luckily, this is a self-service operation that each user has to perform only once.

How can I make a feature request?

You can create all kinds of requests (bugs, new features, improvements, questions) using our Customer Portal available at:

Can I display Jira filter results?

Of course. An ability to display Jira filter results is embedded in the “Smart Filter&Children View” macro.

You can search either for an issue parent or a filter name directly from the macro browser.
